I have to start by talking about coronavirus (sorry!). It's pretty much everywhere. Whenever you turn on the TV, watch the news, listen to the radio, it's there. The news isn't good either. It's always about the daily death rate increasing, the hit to the economy, or the hardship people are now facing. That doesn't do our mental health any good, it just makes a strange and anxious time feel even more scary.
But there are steps we can take to make ourselves feel better.

Change the channel!
If you find yourself watching the news on repeat, it's probably a good idea to change the channel or turn the TV off. It's good to stay informed, however if we watch too much then we might find ourselves feeling a bit low, so it's probably a good idea to limit our news consumption. Once a day is enough, and never before bed.
Stay Connected
Technology is brilliant, let's use it! We've all heard about Zoom and how that's bringing people together. Staying connected to people can help reduce loneliness and anxiety. So let's use the technology available to us to stay connected to people and feel better.
Keep calm
There are a number of ways we can help ourselves feel calm and relaxed. Mediation, mindfulness and exercise can help us feel better. For a guide to mindfulness and meditation exercises click here. There are also some great apps as well which you can find here. Relieving stress and anxiety, improving stress and lowering blood pressure are just some of the benefits of practising mindfulness and meditation.

Routine
Getting into a regular routine is important. If you've been furloughed in the last few months or you're working from home it can be easy to let go of the usual routine you had when you were working. However, in order to keep some normality establishing a regular routine is important. Wake up and go to sleep at a set time, engage with meaningful activities, re - engage with old hobbies or start something new!
This too shall pass
These four words are really important right now. They will allow you to realise that this situation is not permanent and will one day end. We will go back to what we enjoyed doing before and this will be over and you will feel better
